Paula Tallieu

Paula Tallieu was born in Pittem, Belgium in 1921. At the beginning of Hitler’s infiltration into German politics in 1921, she moved to Brussels to work as a maid and shopkeeper for Roger Van Eeckhaute. He assisted her in finding refugee work as a housekeeper for Dr. Van der Steen in Haachtseteenweg following Nazi-Germany’s invasion in Belgium.

The acts of resistance performed by Dr. Van der Steen motivated Tallieu to join the fight against Hitler’s communism. She joined the Comete-line, a smuggling network established by Andreee de Jongh that aided allied pilots oversees to get to safe shelter. After WWII’s end, Tallieu was awarded with numerous certificates honoring her service to the resistance. On July 7, 1950, she married Jan Dierickx. Together they had two children.
